About Claire

I’m not very good at the whole ‘self promotion’ thing but here goes…

Amaryllis was created in 2008 by myself, Claire Houghton Ward. As anyone who knows me will tell you-I love flowers and I love weddings! I am always honoured to make wedding flowers as I feel that it is an absolute privilege to be involved in such an important element of your special day. I offer a personal, bespoke service.

I had my first taste of wedding floristry as a Saturday girl in the Manchester flower shop I worked in. Initially I was given the mundane task of wrapping boxes for the buttonholes to go on and grew to love the excitement of making flowers for such a special day. Fast forward quite a few years (about 26 in fact!), after floristry NVQs, a stint as florist manageress, lots of practice, quite a few other jobs in between, a move to Devon, and Amaryllis blossomed! Amaryllis did have a bricks & mortar shop in the village for a while but anyone with three children will know that the two are not compatible so the shop had to go (rather than the children!)

Everything from the initial consultation to the finished arrangements are done entirely by myself so that I get to know couples and learn exactly what they want. Every commission receives my individual attention and I do not mass produce bouquets and arrangements. It is important to me, and the couples who order flowers from me that every commission is individual.

I now live in Morchard Bishop, Mid Devon with my lovely husband, our three beautiful children and our grumpy cat. I work around our three small children; this makes no difference to the level of commitment I give every commission-but it does go someway to explain the odd 2am email!

I love what I do, and I hope that it shows. I think my style is very honest, romantic and often country looking. I like the flowers to be natural and timeless, and to speak for themselves.
